Trip Information & Cancellation Policy

At Airborne NZ, our focus is always on providing a high level of service and ensuring every guest enjoys an  unforgettable experience from start to finish. Because our trips take place in remote alpine and backcountry  environments, there are several important factors that can aAect the trip, including unforeseen weather  changes, helicopter operating requirements, safety considerations, and individual client fitness levels. The  following information is provided to help set clear expectations before your trip and to outline our terms and  conditions, including our cancellation policy. In addition to reading this document it’s also important for you to  complete the online guest pre trip information form. You’ll be sent this form once you have accepted your  quote.

New Zealand Weather

  • New Zealand weather can be changeable and, at times, can significantly aAect our trip planning. Because our  fishing programme involves accessing remote backcountry environments by helicopter, weather and river  conditions are critical factors that we take seriously and plan for carefully. Occasionally, despite the best  planning, Mother Nature has the final say and we may need to adjust the day’s plans. The key points we ask you  to understand are outlined below:

  • Safety always comes first. If a flight needs to be cancelled due to weather, the pilot’s decision is final.  We will always do our best to communicate any changes to you as far in advance as possible. • If we cannot fly, we will drive where possible. Our focus is always on delivering the best fishing  experience available on the day. In the event we are unable to fly, we will access the best suitable  option by road.

  • Any prepaid helicopter charges will be reimbursed for days where flying is not possible due to weather. • In some cases, a flight may still be possible but may require deviations away from problematic weather  systems. Additional helicopter costs may apply in these situations. Where this is a possibility, we will  communicate this with you prior to departure so you are aware of any additional cost before  proceeding.

Helicopter Safety

Your safety is our highest priority. On arrival, and again each morning before departure, our team will provide a  detailed helicopter safety briefing. This briefing will cover the key hazards, procedures, and expectations for  operating safely around the aircraft and in remote environments. Throughout the trip, your pilot and guide will  continue to provide reminders and instructions as required. It is essential that all clients listen carefully and  follow the directions of the pilot and guide at all times.

Back Country Safety

Much of our backcountry helifishing experiences take place a long way from the nearest road. Our guides hold  current first aid certificates and carry comprehensive first aid kits. In addition to first aid equipment, they also  carry other emergency gear, including:

  • Extra clothing

  • A shelter system

  • A means of remote communication

  • A personal locator beacon

  • Spare rods and reels

  • Emergency food supplies

As with helicopter safety, staying safe in the backcountry is extremely important. Your guide is there not only to  help you catch fish, but also to support your safety throughout the day. Please listen carefully to their  instructions and follow their guidance at all times while you are on the river.
